Three E.Coli Cases Confirmed In Madison County

CDC

The Madison County Health Department is investigating 3 cases of E. Coli  in the county. According to a press release issued Thursday the first case was reported last week and two additional cases have been reported this week. One case was an adult and the other two were children.

The Kentucky Department of Public Health reported the state has 44 cases of the food-borne illness. The average age is 18. Six people have been hospitalized.

The best defense against E.coli is hand washing with warm water and soap and properly cleaning and preparing fruits, vegetables and meat and chicken.

The source of the outbreak is not yet confirmed. Local officials are working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to uncover the source of contamination.
