President Trump To Hold Rally At EKU

Wikimedia Commons

President Donald J. Trump will hold a rally at Eastern Kentucky University’s Alumni Coliseum on Saturday, Oct. 13.

EKU President Michael Benson sent a campus-wide email on Friday night to announce the event. Benson said this is the first time a sitting president has visited the Richmond campus.

Benson said in the email that “the campaign contacted EKU concerning the availability of our facilities. As with all facility rentals, the university remains non-partisan with respect to any endorsement of a political candidate. Alumni Coliseum has been rented with a standard contract utilized by EKU Conferencing and Events, which are entered into on a non-discriminatory basis.”

Access to the rally will be managed by the Trump campaign. Additional information on attendance is available at https://www.donaldjtrump.com/rallies.

In the email, Benson urged civility and respect during the rally among those who might have political disagreements.

Because the event is scheduled for the Saturday before fall break Benson said the interruptions on campus are expected to be minimal.

As details are confirmed, information will be posted at www.eku.edu/rally.

This is not the first time EKU has been host to political dignitaries.  In 1961, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson came to campus.  Former First Lady Michelle Obama was a guest for EKU’s 2013 spring commencement.
