Feedback: Can You Slow Down the Streaming & Enough with the Jean Cochran!

Over the weekend, we had an interesting comment from Mike in Versailles. He writes, “I stream WEKU and have noticed WEKU uses more broadband resources than other streaming sources I often listen to (like jazzradio or old time radio). Is it possible to stream weku at a lower level? If I'm

listening to WEKU and try downloading a large file at the same time, my system slows down a lot. I will often have to turn off WEKU to complete the download.”

Well, Mike, we'll look into your suggestion but I'm not sure what we'll be able to do without degrading the quality of the streaming signal. It is my impression that we're actually encoding at a lower rate than a lot of streaming services. But, maybe something has changed recently with our provider, NPR Digital Services. We'll check into it.

We had a message from a listener, choosing to remain anonymous, who's getting tired of hearing messages from Jean Cochran about WEKU Day Sponsorships and the upcoming

Day Sponsor reception.

Meanwhile, Aleta wrote with a question that we were able to help with, “Today between 7:50 and 8:00 a.m. (or was it 8:50 and 9:00?) during a tech/business segment, something was mentioned that would give one the opportunity to try to follow a budget based on a minimum wage job. Our students might find that helpful. Could you advise me please?”

Of course, the timing of what she heard was a giveaway. It's pretty obvious that what she heard was during the Marketplace Morning Report and we told her that was likely the case.
