A mobile clinic for women due for their breast cancer screenings is in Lexington this week.

A partnership with UnitedHealthcare and the Kentucky Primary Care Association is offering free mammograms for those in underserved communities who might struggle with cost or transportation.

It’s recommended women 40 years and older get screened for breast cancer at least every two years.

Molly Lewis is the CEO of the Kentucky Primary Care Association. She says the earlier any symptoms are detected, the better.

“Early detection saves lives, and so it's important for Kentucky and for Kentuckians to be able to take care of ourselves.”

Lewis says there are plans to go to western and eastern Kentucky later this month, including towns like Princeton and Corbin.

The unit will be at the Bluegrass Community Health Center at 131 North Eagle Dr. Tuesday, and at the HealthFirst Bluegrass Community Health Center at 496 Southland Dr. Wednesday and Thursday.
