The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department has confirmed 10 cases of salmonella in central Kentucky.
That cases include four residents from Fayette County, two from Jessamine County, two from Mercer County, one from Fleming County and one from out of state.
The county says the outbreak can be traced to pies sold at Ramsey’s Diner and Missy’s Pies, between June 17 and June 20. They’ve worked with the restaurants to throw out any food that could be contaminated, and are sampling pies and eggs to trace the source.
Eggs are raw food and are more at risk of being contaminated.
The department says to throw out any recently bought pies from Missy’s or Ramsey’s in the meantime. Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, cramps and nausea over a few days.
The department is asking those experiencing symptoms to fill out an online questionnaire.
