Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport isn’t experiencing delays or other problems related to Wednesday’s REAL ID enforcement date for commercial airline travel. That’s according to Amy Caudill, the airport’s vice president of marketing.
“We've actually been very fortunate, because prior to going into the May 7 deadline, we actually had at least 80 to 85 percent of our travelers already coming through with a REAL ID. So that made life a lot easier. And needless to say, that number is increasing every day.”
WEKU spoke with Alexa Perry shortly before she and fellow Frankfort resident Dinah Bevington boarded a plane for Vegas – both with REAL IDs. Perry said she had no concerns about airport delays.
“I don't, because I have my REAL ID. Also brought my passport, just in case there were delays. I do know in Frankfort that they've had an influx of people in the last just couple of days, so just trying to get their IDs.”
Long wait times for people waiting to get REAL IDs have been reported at Kentucky’s regional drivers’ licensing offices.
