FEMA is changing its operating hours this week for its 17 disaster recovery centers in Kentucky.
They’ll now be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They’ll be closed on Sundays.
A federal emergency declaration for Kentucky was also declared Friday for last week’s storms.
FEMA spokesperson Danny Bernardy says that means the agency is covering most of the cost for life-saving and immediate safety efforts.
“Typically, what happens next is there's a preliminary damage assessment, which is key in determining whether or not a major disaster declaration will be requested by the governor to the president,” Bernardy said.
Bernardy says that shouldn’t affect assistance from February’s storms.
“Survivors of the February floods need not worry that what has taken place this week affects the resources and assistance that is available to them from that disaster, that disaster was declared, and those resources are available,” he said.
Governor Andy Beshear said during a Monday press conference the state will also be applying for individual and public assistance from FEMA.
