The University of Kentucky is among 45 schools nationwide being investigated by the Department of Education amid anti-DEI sentiment from the federal government.
A release from the Department of Education says its Office for Civil Rights is investigating whether the school’s ties to “The Ph.D. Project” nonprofit is a Title VI violation.
The nonprofit works with students from underrepresented backgrounds to help them get postgraduate business degrees.
The department says the school’s graduate programs are allegedly engaging in “race-exclusionary practices” by partnering with the group.
A statement from UK says they’re aware of the federal government’s announcement, but haven’t yet received an official notice as of Friday morning and can’t comment further. They're currently monitoring the situation.
That comes amid a push from both federal and state officials to end diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in schools. UK shuttered its Office of Institutional Diversity in August.
