Officials at the Lexington Veterans Affairs Health Care System are mum on the question of how many employees there and at community clinics will be let go. The Trump Administration has fired 2,400 already and last week VA Secretary Doug Collins confirmed media reports of plans to reduce the national VA workforce by another 72,000.

Another 72-thousand VA jobs around the country are on the chopping block.

In late February, Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins visited VA facilities in Hazard and Lexington. He said services to veterans and beneficiaries would not be affected by the firing of 2,400 VA employees nationwide. Last week, he confirmed media reports of plans to reduce the VA workforce by an additional 72-thousand.

In late February and again Friday, WEKU asked the Lexington Veterans Affairs Health Care System’s public affairs officer how many of its employees would be among those let go. In each case, we did not receive a response.
