A state lawmaker from Lexington who died Sunday is being remembered by a colleague as one of the kindest, most positive people he ever met. Representative Lamin Swann was 45 years old. Fellow lawmaker and friend, Representative Chad Aull, who also represents a Lexington district, said Swann never lost his temper, even when he was fighting legislation they both disliked.
“He had no temper like he was. So, ‘turn the cheek, turn the page,’ just a very kind individual who just never held a grudge and never got mad at people.”
Aull said he met Swann nearly 20 years ago, when each was active in the state Young Democrats organization. Aull said his friend fulfilled a lifelong dream by winning a state House seat. Along the way, Swann overcame multiple obstacles, not the least of which was cerebral palsy, which Aull said didn’t affect his kind temperament or his ability to work for his constituents.
“And even though he had a progressively as the age that that ailment had gotten worse, and to the point where he had been in a wheelchair for some time now, he was still just as active and as productive a representative as any of us are.”
Aull said it was an honor to know Lamin Swann. A spokesman for the Secretary of State’s Office said Governor Beshear will pick the date of a special election to fill Swann’s 93rd District seat, and each party’s executive committee will choose a nominee.
