Ground broken for new police roll call center in Lexington

Lexington TV-Youtube

Lexington city officials have broken ground on a new East Sector Police Roll Call Center. When completed, it will mark the first time a sector station is situated outside of New Circle Road and Man O War Boulevard. Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said it will also produce cost savings.

“This new facility will position police officers closer to major traffic arteries and to neighborhoods along Man O War Boulevard. It will also save the city money on utilities and rent,” said Gorton.

The new police facility will be constructed on city-owned property in Veterans Park. The East Sector Roll Call Center is currently located on Centre Parkway. Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said police protection must accompany growth.

“Keeping public safety in mind is paramount to planning for the city’s future. The facility will improve our accessibility to a growing East Sector,” said Weathers.

The $4.2 million building will include expanded operational space and a new bike room to store and work on bikes.
