Cyberattacks are becoming more and more prevalent in the U.S. One this week is carrying an impact at the University of Kentucky.

The human resources management platform Kronos got hit with a ransomware attack. University of Kentucky HealthCare uses Kronos Private Cloud for data and software storage.

UK says Kronos is a time and attendance system used by certain staff. When the system went down, a paper process to capture hours was temporarily used until a new electronic application was put in place. The payroll system was not impacted.

About 10,000 employees have been affected, primarily at UK HealthCare and Eastern State Hospital.

Kronos has said it could be weeks before service is restored.
