The Lexington City Council has given first reading approval to a contract with Cities United. The city will work with the organization to help develop a plan to reduce the number of homicides and shootings.
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said Cities United is working with 130 partner communities across the country. Recommendations from the Commission on Racial Justice and Equality will be an emphasis. The $100,000 contract will be funded through the William R Kenan Junior Charitable Trust.
New One Lexington Director Devine Carama will lead the team working with Cities United.
