Former Lexington Herald-Leader Publisher Named Head Of Hope Homeless Center

A new director has been named to head Lexington’s largest homeless shelter.  The new director has an extensive journalism background.

The Hope Center has announced Rufus Friday will take on the responsibility as executive director of the multi-faceted homelessness agency.  Hope Center Board Chair Cathy Jacobs said after an extensive search the perfect fit was found close to home. Friday served as president and publisher of the Lexington Herald-Leader for seven years.  Most recently he was special assistant to the president of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

In response to his naming, Friday said, “The incredible work that the Hope Center provides to Lexington and Central Kentucky is a testament to its commitment, through the comprehensive array of programs and services that are provided to get people back on their feet.”

Friday succeeds Cecil Dunn who served as executive director for 24 years and retired in 2019.  CEO Janice James served as interim executive director.
