Triple A: Battery Service Calls Increase During Coronavirus

automobile.aaa.com

The onset of coronavirus this year has changed many priorities day to day.  For some people, that may mean routine car maintenance has fallen by the wayside.

Emergency roadside service calls at Bluegrass Triple A are up about a thousand this year compared to this point in 2019.  Triple A ERS Manager Jed Bowles said battery service calls went up 5% this past summer.

“Automotive batteries depend on a chemical reaction that works and then all of a sudden it doesn’t work.  It’s hard to know when that’s going to happen, so getting it tested is important to gauge an idea of how much time or life you’ve got left in that battery,”  said Bowles.

Bowles said getting a battery tested goes hand in hand with the start of the fast approaching winter season.  Triple A says motorists are logging far fewer miles during coronavirus, so many cars are sitting idle in garages or on driveways for longer periods of time.?
