Lexington City Recycling Center To Shut Down Temporarily In January

lexingtonky.gov

Lexington officials planto shut down of the city’s recycling center in early January to install new equipment.

The center will be closed from Jan. 6 - 19.  Workers in the Division of Waste Management will not collect material in residential recycle Rosie carts during this period.  Citizens are encouraged to hold their recyclables until pickups resume the week of January 20.

Environmental Quality and Public Works Commissioner Nancy Albright said changes are long overdue and the new equipment will help prevent breakdowns plus increase reliability.  The closure is due to the installation of a new conveyer belt and a fire protection system.  New heaters to improve working conditions will also be installed.

The upgrades are part of a $2 million investment that started earlier this year.
