A recycling consulting firm has been hired to assist Lexington officials in establishing new, long-term recycling strategies. That review will include investigating a move for a private entity to operate the city’s recycling center.

Tyler Scott is Chief of Staff to Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton. He said the private contractor search likely would have a close tie to recycling. “Look at potential suitors who may be interested in the end use products, the commodities and therefore be interested in the front end maintenance and operations of the facility itself. We don’t know what that looks like, but this is a good time for us to assess that, that possibility,” said Scott.
Resource Recycling Systems is also being called on to, among other things, seek new markets for paper bales and evaluate new machinery for glass recycling. The city stopped accepting paper products several weeks ago. Scott says it’s too soon to say when the city will resume collecting paper products.
