WEKU Inks Exclusive Deal With Red Barn Radio

Ed Commons

WEKU and Red Barn Radio today announced a broadcast partnership that makes WEKU the exclusive home of the Lexington-based music show in Central and Eastern Kentucky.

Beginning July 7, 2019, Red Barn Radio will expand to a two-hour program airing on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. The first hour of the program will be from the Red Barn Radio archives, while the second hour will be the latest recorded weekly show from Lexington. A rebroadcast of the second hour of the program will also be added to the WEKU schedule on Sunday from 8-9 p.m.

WEKU Director and General Manager Mike Savage said the new partnership helps make WEKU the weekend destination for listeners who want to experience the growing importance of the Kentucky music scene.

“Red Barn Radio and the musicians that perform on the program create an authentic audio portrait of the Commonwealth. It’s an honor to present an expanded offering of great original Kentucky music in prime time on WEKU,” said Savage.

Red Barn Radio Executive Producer and Director Ed Commons called the partnership a win-win for both organizations.

“We have been looking for a broadcast partner that would make a commitment to broadcasting Kentucky music while at the same time being a true community partner. As one of the mostly highly recognized public radio stations in Kentucky, WEKU is that partner. We look forward to reaching new audiences and helping WEKU meet its commitment of providing the best local content to Kentuckians,” said Commons.
