Lexington Establishing Diversity and Inclusion Officer

kentucky.com

The city of Lexington is about to launch a search for someone to head up diversity and inclusion efforts in local government.  A description of the position and responsibilities were offered to city leaders Tuesday.

Urban County Government had someone working in a diversity focused position for about two decades, but it hasn’t for the past several years.  Jenifer Wuorenmaa, in the CAO’S office, told council an overall mission focuses on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. “So we want to increase the number of minorities at all levels of the LFUCG.  And, again, this is not just race.  This is ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender,” said Wuorenmaa.

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says the office of diversity and inclusion will be a meaningful addition to city government.  He says the human resources department is the appropriate place to carry out diversity in hiring. Gray adds the role will be elevated in this position.?
