Federal Grant to Provide $14.1 Million for Town Branch Commons

Lexington Herald- Leader www.kentucky.com

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government has received a federal grant of over $14 million to complete the Town Branch Commons Corridor project.  The funds are being awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s TIGER discretionary grant program.

Kentucky Senator and U.S. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced the funding in a news release.  Earlier this year, McConnell reached out to Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx on behalf of the City of Lexington, saying the project (quote) “has the potential to address multiple overlapping community needs by developing new public green space and by connecting neighborhoods with educational institutions, and tourist, entertainment, and historical sites.”

Mayor Jim Gray thanked the Senator for his support, calling the announcement a “watershed moment” for the city and downtown.”

Gray also expressed his appreciation to “ Representative Andy Barr and to former Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson who now works at the White House.
