The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky reported that more than a quarter of Kentucky adults surveyed said they are concerned more with potential risks of vaccines than benefits.
Of more than 800 Kentuckians surveyed, 26% are more concerned about vaccine risks than benefits. When asked how much information they had heard about vaccines, 12% of participants had heard only a little information.
Ben Chandler, president for the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky said the spread of misinformation makes it harder to get accurate information to the public.
“All you need is a little propaganda to make people question the integrity of what were otherwise trusted sources,” Chandler said.
And concerns aren’t limited to the COVID-19 vaccine.
“If the vaccine controversies that have taken place cause people to not get their regular vaccines in the years ahead, we’re going to be dealing with some serious health problems across the board here in Kentucky, and of course, probably throughout the country,” Chandler said.
A little more than half of Kentuckians surveyed reported they received a flu shot during the 2020-21 flu season.
