Governor Beshear says it appears Kentucky is back to a plateau level as it relates to coronavirus cases across the Commonwealth. The governor a few weeks ago spoke about the state being in a decline in the rate of cases.
Beshear said higher day to day cases don’t put the state in a “spike” category. “We are not increasing at the rate of those that people talk about spiking, whether you look at Arizona, Texas, and some others. And while our numbers kind of go up and down they are not doubling every day or week or even two weeks and continuing to increase,” explained Beshear.
Governor Beshear and Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Steven Stack both stressed Monday night the importance of mask wearing in public to reduce the chance of a major spike in COVID-19. It came during the nightly briefing. States like Arizona, Texas, and Florida have seen a significant spike in cases. Dr. Stack says warm summer weather knocking down the virus may have been wishful thinking. “If you’re hoping that the coronavirus will take a nap during the summer, it’s 106 degrees in Phoenix Arizona today. It kind of suggests that if that kind of heat doesn’t slow it down, I’m not sure what kind will,” said Stack.
And Stack pointed to Florida‘s high heat and humidity which doesn’t seem to be lessening coronavirus. The governor said the one coronavirus related death recorded Sunday brought the state’s total to 500. Beshear said there were five more deaths recorded for Monday.?
