Lexington has recorded its third flu-related death during the current influenza season. This fatality occurred in an infant less than 12 months old.
Officials with the Fayette County Health Department say this is the first pediatric flu-related death since at least the 2015-2016 period. Additional details can’t be provided because of medical privacy laws.
Health Department Spokesman Kevin Hall said the previous two deaths were people older than 50 with underlying health conditions. Hall added the flu shot is recommended for any child six months and older.
The health department spokesman said a flu shot is important for anyone who is around babies younger than that.?
