Sunday will be moving day for 53 cancer patients at the University of Kentucky’s Markey Center as they relocate to a newly opened floor in the hospital.
Patient Sarah Lister shared her experience at the center Friday morning during the official unveiling.
Diagnosed in early 2016 with acute myeloid leukemia, Lister spent four months at Markey. She ultimately received a life-saving bone marrow transplant. Lister says the new inpatient floor was carefully and thoughtfully designed. “Lots of natural sunlight and beautiful artwork and spaces for loved ones to rest and recharge and, of course, the latest and greatest state of the art medical technology,” said Lister.
The new floor includes 31 beds for solid tumor patients and 32 beds for bone marrow transplant and blood cancer patients. But, Lister says, the medical staff will make the floor a space of true healing.
