A representative of The Kentucky Alzheimer’s Association says the Commonwealth is making history with a new vehicle license plate.
The Bluegrass state is the first in the country to make the Alzheimer's-related specialty plate available.
Almost 70,000 people across Kentucky have Alzheimer’s disease and that number is only expected to grow. The specialty plate features a forget-me-not flower on a purple background with the words “Honor. Remember. Care. End Alzheimer’s.”
Bari Lewis, director of community outreach for the Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, says the increased awareness will shine a light on the impact of the memory disease on those affected and their families.
She says it will also be a reminder of the need to find effective prevention, treatment and a cure.
Drivers will now be able to select the plate when renewing tags at any county clerk's office. Lewis says other states are working to make Alzheimer’s plates available, but Kentucky’s the first to do it.
