Disposal Of VX Nerve Agent Underway At Blue Grass Army Depot

Blue Grass Chemical Stockpile Outreach Office

Disposal of VX nerve agent munitions at the Blue Grass Army Depot is underway.  The third of five chemical agent destruction campaigns  started this past weekend.

Bechtel Parsons Project Manager Ron Hink said everything went well with transition from test runs to neutralization of the first VX projectiles. “We always have a little bit of adjustment to do on the front end when we move from test materials to the real thing, and that’s what we experienced.  Other than that, very very well.  Everything is operating as planned,” said Hink

Hink says the VX projectile disposal campaign at the plant in Madison County is expected to be completed this summer.  Then, attention will turn to VX and GB nerve agent rockets.  Disposal of mustard agent continues as well.  The entire stockpile totaling about 523 tons is scheduled to be destroyed by the end of 2023.
