Additional Home Energy Assistance Available in Central Kentucky

A new spring enrollment period through Community Action Council is being conducted for low income residents seeking energy assistance in central Kentucky.  Monetary assistance for qualified households is available through June 30 or until funds are depleted.

The federally funded Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program provides a one-time benefit to offset home energy costs.  The funds are distributed to income eligible households on a first come-first serve basis.

Income eligibility has increased to 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.  An overdue bill or disconnect notice is not required.  Families don’t have to own their home or pay energy bills directly to be eligible.

Community Action Council Executive Director Sharon Price says the increased income eligibility will allow the agency to assist a greater number of household facing financial hardships due to coronavirus.

The program serves residents in Fayette, Bourbon, Harrison, and Nicholas Counties.?
