Eastern Kentucky University Alters Spring Instruction Format

britannica.com

Eastern Kentucky University is moving to an online learning environment, at least temporarily, for its students in the wake of coronavirus concern.  Eastern students are on spring break this week.

EKU Interim President David McFaddin says the break will be extended one week.  He says students will then use computers through the end of March instead of sitting in class.

“We will reassess during that period of time of what the status of the public health situation is on campus, in the community, across the state, and across the region.  Then we will evaluate whether to continue with alternative instruction or whether we will return to our traditional instruction the first week in April,” said McFaddin.

McFaddin says there was no consideration given to canceling classes for the remainder of the spring semester, due to the availability of online education methods.   “We knew that we would have a way that we could deliver the course work in an alternative way and we’re going to support students in transitioning to that format and our faculty and our staff will be there to help them along that way.  We have every intention of finishing the semester,” McFaddin said.

The Eastern president said there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Madison County and the measures taken are precautionary.
