Call for "Sick Out" Closes Lexington Schools

Kentucky’s two largest school districts have canceled classes today, in light of a call for a teacher “sick out”, in protest to a piece of legislation being considered in Frankfort.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports there will be no school today in Lexington and Louisville.  Last night, 40% of Fayette County’s school district’s employees reported they would not be in school.

The call for a "sick out" comes as a House committee is scheduled to take up a bill later today that would change the makeup of the board which oversees the Kentucky Teacher Retirement System.

Teachers are expected to rally in Frankfort today on the issue.  Thousands of teachers came to Frankfort last year in protest of proposed pension reforms.
