EKU Officials Issue Sunday Morning Alerts

Richmond Police Department

Eastern Kentucky University officials issued two alerts Sunday morning, advising people on or near the campus in Richmond to “shelter in place.”

The first of the alerts at 12:21 am referred to an area that was the subject of a similar alert last week, Wellington Court at Summit St. near the Madison County Middle School.

Richmond Police responded to a report of “shots fired” but found no active threat.

A second alert was issued later at 9:13 am. When issuing the “all clear” a little more than a half hour later, EKU Safety officials said Richmond Police were following up on a report of an “armed suspect” near the city’s Irvine McDowell Park.

WEKU News is following up on these incidents.
