Two Vaccination Clinics Held At Fayette County Middle Schools

Coronavirus cases in Fayette County continue to rise and they’re impacting public schools. Health Department Spokeswoman Christina King said the current case count for the Lexington school district shows 187 students and 27 staff members testing positive. Overall, King said August has found increased spread of the Delta variant.

“Cases continue to increase in Fayette County. August is already, you know, we only 20 days into the month and we’ve already surpassed May, June, and July combined,” said King.

King noted popup vaccination clinics were held Friday afternoon at Leestown and Edith J. Hayes Middle Schools. At Leestown, King said 20 people pre-registered and 50 had received vaccinations prior to the 3:30 end of the clinic. King added there needs to be continued conversations about the importance of protection.

“A lot of people are often afraid to change their mind. They don’t want to look like they’ve changed their mind. It’s just never too late to learn more. It’s never too late to learn more and then do the right thing with that knowledge,” said King.

And the health department official said social distancing and proper handwashing remain important measures.
