'Not Here To Shame People': Owensboro Hosting Drive-Through COVID Vax Clinic

First Christian Church of Owensboro

A combined effort featuring business, health, and religious groups is resulting in a drive-through COVID vaccination clinic in Owensboro.

The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event Thursday, Aug. 5,  in the parking lot of First Christian Church on J.R. Miller Blvd., from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Staff from the Green River District Health Department will be offering the one-dose Johnson & Johnson shot, and the two-dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

The clinic comes at a time when Kentucky’s COVID incidence rate mapshows more than half of the state’s counties are in the red zone, including Daviess and nearby Hancock, Henderson, McLean, and Ohio.

Candance Castlen Brake, CEO and President of the Greater Owensboro Chamber, said boosting the region’s vaccination rate is in everyone’s interest.

“Our focus here at the Chamber is primarily to keep businesses and schools open. And we know that if schools are open, then businesses and employers have a much less difficult time staying open. We’re not here to shame people, we’re here to encourage people," she said.

Brake said many of the residents who got their vaccinations at previous drive-through clinics mentioned that they appreciated the anonymous nature of the process.

The vaccines are free, regardless of health insurance status.

No appointments are necessary, but those wanting the vaccine should bring a photo ID.
