The vaccination eligibility in Kentucky is about to expand to those 50 and older. Governor Beshear made that announcement Thursday.
The governor said shots for the 50 and over group begin Monday. “You can start signing up for any appointment beginning Monday or later right now and you can also check with vaccine providers that are working through the weekend.”
Additionally, Beshear says vaccinations will expand to include all those 16 and over by April 12th. Starting today, the curfew for service at bars and restaurants is being pushed back to midnight.
Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said increasing vaccinations can play a role in preventing more coronavirus variants. He noted it’s now known that an outbreak involving a variant at an Eastern Kentucky nursing home was not the variant found in Great Britain, South Africa, or Brazil. “That analysis will help us determine in the future if this is part of a new strain or new variant of concern, but we’re not at that point yet,” explained Stack.
Governor Beshear announced 785 additional COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.2%, the lowest since July third.
