Officials at the Georgetown Toyota plant are looking for people to fill some 400 jobs. The call goes out as the assembly plant gears up for production of the RAV-4 hybrid SUV in January.
Toyota Spokesperson Rick Hesterberg said these are not new positions, but it’s an effort to keep up with attrition, much of it through employee retirements.
“We’ve always tried to stay ahead of that game and try to manage for that, so we don’t see any big fluctuations because we’re a company that’s dependent on our team members. They are our success. We want to continue that success and with a new model coming on it’s very crucial for us to maintain our employment levels,” said Hesterberg.
Hesterberg noted the starting pay is just over 18 dollars an hour with a $500 signing bonus. With the addition of the RAV-4 hybrid, Hesterberg added the Scott County plant will be producing four gas and electric powered vehicles. “You know probably 15, 20 years ago we started talking about hybrids, even said at that time that as the market demands we need to plan for a hybrid version of all our vehicles, if the market does demand that. So, we’re seeing that come to fruition here,” noted Hesterberg.
Hesterberg said workers at the Scott County plant currently build the Camry, Avalon, Lexus ES, and RAV-4 vehicles.
