Central Kentucky’s largest manufacturer is celebrating a 30 year anniversary.  The Toyota story has been one of great growth.

The atmosphere was light on a brilliant sunny day, outside the auto plant in Scott County.  Toyota President Wil James noted a plane overhead pulling a company banner.  “Now if you haven’t noticed, 30 years has just flown by.  How about that timing,”

In those three decades since groundbreaking for the Japanese automaker’s first auto assembly factory in the U.S., employment has grown to more than eight thousand, a six billion dollar investment.  Georgetown Mayor Tom Prather served as mayor when Toyota came to town in the 1980’s.  “We can achieve this economic growth without sacrificing the wonderful qualities that have made Georgetown-Scott County such a remarkable place for 200 years,” said Prathcer. “And that’s the balance that we strive for every day.”

Not slowing down, construction is underway on a new production campus for 300 engineers.  Additionally, there are plans for a major plant makeover that James says won’t impact car production numbers.?
