Folk Musician John Gorka to Perform at Carnegie Arts Center

The term "folk music" can refer to a lot of different styles. Folk tunes are the basis for much of the classical music of Bela Bartok and Aaron Copeland. Ethnic music of Africa inspired the writing of Paul Simon for his multi-Grammy-award-winning album Graceland. And then there's the music Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, and Arlo Guthrie. In 1991, Rolling Stone magazine proclaimed John Gorka the preiminent singer/songwriter of the New Folk Movement. Since the mid-1980s, Gorka has been making music his own way and he brings that artistry to the Carnegie Community Arts Center in Somerset this week. Here, he talks with WEKU's Roger Duvall about the difference in how his writing and recording have changed over time.
