Grand Jury indicts former University of Kentucky cheerleader on charges related to the death of an infant

A Fayette County Grand Jury has indicted former UK cheerleader Laken Snelling on charges related to the death of an infant.

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, around 10:30 a.m., officers were dispatched for an unresponsive infant at a residence in the 400 block of Park Avenue. When officers arrived, they located an infant that was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Laken Snelling was arrested previously arrested, and charged with Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Concealing the Birth of an Infant. Snelling is the infant’s mother.

During the investigation, the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office determined Infant Snelling was born alive and his cause of death to be asphyxia by undetermined means.

On March 10, 2026, a Grand Jury indicted Laken Snelling on the charges of Manslaughter 1st Degree, Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Concealing the Birth of an Infant. The charge of Manslaughter 1st Degree was added by the convening Grand Jury. 

 The investigation was conducted by the Lexington Police Department, Fayette Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office, Fayette County Coroner’s Office, and Kentucky State Police Forensic Laboratory.
