Snow has transitioned primarily to sleet and freezing rain across much of Kentucky. Ice accumulations are causing hazardous road conditions, and power outages are now being reported throughout the southcentral and southeastern parts of the state.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said crews

statewide continue to treat and plow roads as snow. No major blockages or closures reported, but with snow blanketed by ice on roads and more of each on the way, conditions are expected to worsen. Downed trees and power lines, low-hanging limbs are also being reported, creating even more travel difficulties.

Just over 51,000 power outages have been reported across Kentucky as of 10 AM Sunday.

Sub-zero temperatures and wind chills pose a serious threat with this storm. If possible, stay inside and out of the wind. If outside, wear several layers and cover every inch of exposed skin with a hat, gloves, scarf, or other appropriate face covering.

On Saturday, President Trump approved emergency declarations from Kentucky and nine other states due to this winter storm.

Kentucky National Guard members are in position to begin helping those in areas where heavy ice accumulation is expected.
