Kentucky National Guard members have been deployed across the state at 52 armory locations. Members are making rounds in local communities today to check on people and prepare. Teams are preloading near areas expected to receive increased ice accumulations.
Governor Andy Beshear has declared a state of emergency ahead of this winter storm system that is set to affect much of the commonwealth. This allows for the activation of state resources. This includes Kentucky Emergency Management and the Kentucky National Guard. The state’s Emergency Operations Center is preparing to activate to Level 3.
The governor has also implemented the state’s price gouging laws to protect Kentuckians from overpriced goods and services. With the state of emergency in place, consumers can report price gouging to the Office of the Attorney General.
This storm is going to have a major impact on roadways, utilities and daily lives. KYTC is pretreating roadways and ready to respond. The Kentucky Guard has 800 staff ready, with 225 vehicles.
Kentuckians are urged to please remember:
Check on your neighbors
Have proper ventilation, and keep generators at least 20 feet from your house
Take it easy when shoveling, we lost too many people from heart attacks last year
Call 911 or your local KSP post if stranded; we have a backup number we will release later if these call centers become overwhelmed
Know where your local warming center is... those can be found here.
