Toyota Motor North America, Inc., Toyota's North American headquarters, announced an investment of $912 million in five manufacturing plants in the United States. The plant in Georgetown is one of those plants.
The investment is for those plants involved in hybrid vehicle production to meet growing demand for the vehicles in the U.S. Along with the Georgetown plant, the other plants include the Buffalo plant in West Virginia, the Blue Springs plant in Mississippi, the Jackson plant in Tennessee, and the Troy plant in Missouri.
The investment is part of the up to $10 billion additional investment plan over the next five years in the U.S., the company announced earlier this month.
In the U.S., Toyota employs approximately 50,000 people and has been involved in the development and manufacturing of over 35 million vehicles across 11 manufacturing plants.
Just under 10,000 of those employees work at the Georgetown plant.
