Governor Andy Beshear met with other Democratic governors from across the country on Friday to discuss the challenges their states are facing due to the Trump Administration's budget.
During the press conference held in Madison, Wisconsin, Beshear offered harsh words for lawmakers in Washington who voted in support of the reconciliation bill.
“The idea that we had so many congressmen and women, and senators vote for something that every single projection showed would cost jobs in their districts, would slow down the economy, and ultimately would cause people to lose healthcare. I mean, we're supposed to be Americans first and Democrats and Republicans second.”
Beshear also discussed how the various tariffs being issued by the Trump Administration are taking a toll on many states, but especially Kentucky and the bourbon industry.
“My state is projected to get hit by tariffs harder than anywhere. We have more people living on those right on those margins, and we have more small businesses that aren't going to be able to absorb those costs and are already starting to lay people off.”
Beshear currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Democratic Governors Association. He was also elected to serve as Chair of the organization for 2026.
