FEMA asks victims to watch for phone calls during disaster relief application process

FEMA.gov

FEMA is asking recent disaster victims to be alert when getting a call from an unknown number. Those who applied for assistance could be getting calls from the agency to help the application process along.

FEMA spokesperson Nicole Wilson says the agency usually calls three times before stopping. The application process could stall afterwards.

“Our team may be trying to get in touch with you to schedule a home inspection or to try to get information, documentation that we may need to continue to process that application,” she said.

Wilson says to call the FEMA helpline if you’re unsure whether the phone calls are real or not.

Victims can apply for assistance online, by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 or through the mobile app.

The deadline for April flood victims to apply for assistance is July 25. The deadline for tornado victims to apply is July 23.
