U.S. Representative Andy Barr told reporters Wednesday he supports U.S. involvement in the war between Israel and Iran.
During an interview following a Lexington speaking event, he said Congress should give Trump “whatever authorities he seeks” to assist Israel.
“The President needs to have all of the options available to him,” Barr said. “That doesn't necessarily mean that there would be U.S. military involvement, but we need to give the President maximum negotiating leverage.”
Barr also spoke on record saying he supports Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to protests against ICE immigration raids in Los Angeles, calling those taking part “agitators.”
“I think it's outrageous, and I fully support President Trump and the deployment of the National Guard to restore order,” he said.
He also supports proposed work requirements to Medicaid included in a House budget bill, saying they would curb “waste, fraud and abuse.” Those requirements could cut billions of dollars from the program over the next decade.
Barr is a candidate for U.S. Senate, running for Mitch McConnell’s current seat in the Republican primary. McConnell is planning to retire at the end of his term next year.
