Governor Beshear names new Kentucky Health Commissioner

Incoming Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. John Langefeld

Kentucky has a new Commissioner of the state Department for Public Health. Governor Beshear calls Dr. John Langefeld a seasoned leader within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. He will follow Dr. Steven Stack as he transitions to his new role as Secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services on July 11.

Dr. Langefeld currently serves as the Medical Director for Health Insights and Innovation at CHFS.

He has over 30 years of healthcare leadership experience, including serving as the Chief Medical Officer for the Kentucky Department for Medicaid Services. 

KDPH is responsible for developing and operating state public health programs and activities for all Kentuckians.

Dr. Langefeld is a native Kentuckian and earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine after graduating from Berea College with a bachelor’s degree in biology.

He takes over the role on July 1.
