A Kentucky farmer who’s president of the American Soybean Association is asking the Trump Administration to reconsider its “Make America Healthy Again” report. The MAHA study has been criticized by several farming groups for blaming approved pesticides for several diseases and reproductive problems. Caleb Ragland farms in Larue and Hart counties.
“Coming from this commission, it’s got the stamp of the federal government on it, and it paints farmers in a very negative light, and it paints the safety of the food that America’s farmers are producing as dangerous and unsafe.”
Ragland said as a soybean farmer, he’s concerned about the MAHA report’s criticism of seed oils – which echo claims made by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. before he was hired by President Trump. Ragland said farmers didn’t have a seat at the table.
“The American Soybean Association, Farm Bureau made huge pushes to have a sit-down meeting with Secretary Kennedy and every meeting has been denied. They do not want to talk to folks in production agriculture.”
Ragland is a supporter of President Trump and said he believes when Trump is presented with credible studies and data, he’ll make objective decisions that don’t harm U.S. food security – which he said is also national security.
