FEMA assistance deadline closing for February storm victims

FEMA.gov

February storm victims have two weeks left to apply for disaster assistance from FEMA.

The deadline for victims of February storms is May 25. FEMA says around 11,000 people have applied for February assistance. The agency has given out around $40 million in housing assistance dollars.

FEMA spokesperson Danny Bernardy says those affected by both the February and April storms can apply for both with separate applications.

“If you’re a resident of Woodford County and were affected by both storms, you can apply for both events. They'll just be two separate applications for each storm,” Bernardy said.

Bernardy recommends appealing if your application was denied the first time.

“Make sure you've read it from top to bottom. A lot of times we were just missing a document, or there may just be an error or some kind of contact information that isn't right,” he said.

Victims can apply for assistance by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362, going online or downloading the mobile app. They can also visit their nearby disaster recovery center for in-person help.
