Rowan County High School Principal Jordan Mann has been reassigned to other duties outside the school for the rest of the academic year. The Rowan schools’ superintendent made the announcement Wednesday – a day after students walked out of class to protest Mann’s handling of a sexual abuse and pornography case that led to teacher Andrew Zaheri’s 22-year prison sentence. Sarah Logsdon, who has two children in Rowan public schools, still has questions.
“One, I'd like to know where he was reassigned to. Two, why is he not fired? He is, you know, if he knew about this, that's just as bad as the coach doing it.”
Zaheri was a teacher and coach at Rowan County High School. Details of a civil lawsuit against Zaheri, Mann and a former Rowan superintendent suggest Mann didn’t properly respond to tips that Zaheri was engaged in a sexual relationship with a student, and that Mann and Zaheri engaged in vulgar text chats. Logsdon said she believes Tuesday’s walkout had an impact.
“Absolutely, and I'm if it wasn't for the student protest, they would have kept sweeping it under the rug and protecting their own.”
Wednesday, before the announcement that Mann would be reassigned, some Rowan County Middle School students also walked out of class.
