A group of Madison County-area residents is holding a town hall meeting Tuesday to air frustrations with the Trump Administration and Congressman Andy Barr. Lisa Abbott said members of the group dubbed We Show Up KY began meeting in February to discuss administration actions they say are hurting people and democracy itself.
“That includes veterans and farmers and people who depend on Meals on Wheels and local immigrant families – just the whole range of the way that the federal government right now is affecting programs that our lives depend on, as well as fundamental rights.”
Barr was invited to attend or take part by video from Washington, D.C. A spokesman cited possible House committee meetings and floor action as the reason for not participating. Abbott called that a mistake, in part because Barr wants a promotion to the U.S. Senate.
“The fact that he's not willing to hear concerns from his constituents sends a loud signal about how he does or doesn't respect local folks and the ways that our lives are being impacted right now.”
The town hall is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Berea Folk Center and Abbott said supporters of Barr and President Trump are welcome.
