A central Kentucky distillery that began production 15 months ago has ceased operations and furloughed its employees. Garrard County Distilling Company, in Lancaster, also faces a $2.2 million-dollar lawsuit from the company that built the distillery. Diane Bisher is the executive director of the Garrard County Chamber of Commerce. She said she doesn’t know when they’ll reopen.
“No one knows that. There hasn’t even as the employees – I have close friends that were employees there, and they don't know anything as well.”
Plans were grand when the Garrard County Distilling Company began production. Sixty people would be hired, a tasting room and restaurant would be built onsite and another company was building rickhouses across the road. Bisher said she hopes they turn it around and resume operations soon.
“I think that that would be the hope of everyone, especially employees and, you know, our community as well. If you drive past those buildings, they are just, they're just outstanding.”
