High winds from severe storms damaged a Georgetown church less than 12 hours after Sunday services. Angela Earwood is the office manager for Faith Baptist Church. She said around 11:15 Sunday night, part of the sanctuary’s stucco siding was torn off, along with insulation, leaving a portion of drywall exposed. She said no one was in the church at the time.

“Our trustee chair got a phone call from a church member who had received a picture and a text from somebody who drove by, and then a couple minutes later, emergency management in Scott County called our trustee chair to let him know.”

Earwood said rain got into a portion of the sanctuary’s attic.

“We've been able to clean that up and put up some tarps for now. So as of right now, no interior damage, and we're hoping to get some protective covering around some of the exposed areas.”

Earwood said Faith Baptist Church moved to its present site in 1965 and into its present sanctuary in 1989. She said church activities will be unaffected by the damage.
